The Accursed Mountains (Bjeshkët e Nëmuna) in northern Albania are one of the wildest, most beautiful corners of Europe dramatic limestone peaks, turquoise rivers and timeless stone villages. The jewel is Theth.
Short on time? Our Theth & the Albanian Alps day tour gets you there and back in a day, no driving required.
Theth village & church
The postcard image of the Alps: a little stone church in a green valley ringed by towering peaks. Theth is a national park and a base for hikes in every direction.
Grunas Waterfall
A 25-metre waterfall about an hour’s walk from the village an easy, rewarding hike past traditional kulla (stone tower houses).
The Blue Eye of Theth
A glacial pool of impossibly blue water (best late spring to autumn). The walk in is longer and more rugged than the Saranda Blue Eye proper shoes recommended.
The Theth → Valbona hike
The classic day hike of the Albanian Alps crosses the Valbona Pass between two valleys (~6–8 hours). For serious hikers it’s a bucket-list trail.
