Berat Castle (Kala)
Unlike most castles, Berat’s fortress is still inhabited families live inside the walls among Byzantine churches and cobbled lanes. It’s one of the largest inhabited castles in the Balkans, with sweeping views over the valley. Allow 1–2 hours to wander.
The Onufri Museum
Inside the castle, the Onufri Iconographic Museum holds the vivid 16th-century icons of the master painter Onufri, set in a former cathedral. (Small entrance fee, around €5.)
Mangalem & Gorica quarters
Below the castle, the Mangalem (Muslim) and Gorica (Christian) quarters face each other across the river, linked by the picturesque Gorica Bridge. The tiered white houses here are the classic Berat postcard best in late-afternoon light.
